We are seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Denver-based Community Development Intern position that will support our downtown strategic planning, community development, and business improvement district initiatives with an emphasis on research, writing, analysis, and support for on-the-ground community outreach in Denver.


Anticipated tasks include:

  • Research on various subjects related to community development, including “best practice” research on downtown, community, and economic development initiatives
  • Analysis of data on market dynamics like housing, retail, tourism and hospitality, etc., including visualizing data for downtown and community planning efforts in a variety of formats, and developing written summaries of market information
  • Support for community outreach processes, including taking and compiling notes from public meetings, one-on-one, and small group discussions, summarizing online surveys, arranging logistics for meetings, and summarizing key findings from outreach processes
  • Provide support for the P.U.M.A. team in a variety of in-person community engagement efforts for the Near Northwest Area Plan
  • Assist with preparation of PowerPoint presentations
  • Complete occasional administrative tasks as needed


Desired Qualities and Skills:

  • Relevant background and/or education in community planning and development, public administration, economics, sociology, geography, communications, journalism, political science, and/or similar field
  • Experience or strong interest in neighborhood and community planning and passion for supporting community vitality
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential (writing samples may be required as part of the selection process)
  • Reliable availability with excellent time management skills; must be able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines across multiple projects
  • Creative problem solver, collaborative team player, strong desire to learn, and willing to take direction
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator and ArcGIS a plus
  • Fluency in another language, particularly Spanish, is a plus
