Bayfield (2015):  In March, 2015 the Town of Bayfield requested a DCI Advisory Team to assess the historic downtown. The downtown houses the Town Hall and the ball fields. The assessment considered the best use of a parcel recently acquired and a school building and gymnasium that were vacated when the school moved across the highway. The assessment team considered the highway as a major barrier both physically posing a danger for pedestrians and for business without a signage program to promote the retail and dining opportunities in the downtown. DCI created the foundation for a signage and wayfinding program, a branding campaign, provided drawings and concepts for building reuse, and proposed some business attraction ideas to build on rural agricultural heritage. DCI has continued working with the regional Grower’s Association since 2015 to support efforts at education and networking of agricultural entrepreneurs. 

Dolores (2005): DCI visited the Town of Dolores in 2005.  The goal of the two-day visit was to do an assessment of downtown, take account of major strengths and opportunities, create a plan for future development, and design a better downtown area. Some suggestions included improving the cleanliness and image along the main streets and pursuing opportunities through coordination and cost-sharing. 

Ignacio (2009): DCI traveled to Ignacio in 2009. The team gathered data from the community to help them with their goals. The town wanted to improve their infrastructure problems in partnership with CDOT, La Plata County, and the nearby Southern Ute Indian Tribe. They also wanted to improve the appearance of existing building stock and attract more diverse buildings.  DCI recommended strong partnerships and leadership from the downtown. 

Mancos (2012)In 2012 the Town of Mancos requested a downtown assessment from DCI to provide guidance on managing growth and especially how best to encourage and sustain growth within the art community. Another desire was to capture tourist revenue from nearby Mesa Verde and Four Corners. The recommendations for the town included strategies for business development and retention, appropriate economic incentives, and branding/marketing. 

Pagosa Springs (2005): In 2005 DCI visited the Town of Pagosa Springs to enhance the assets the town already had including its vibrant history and natural resources. DCI provided recommendations to cultivate community cohesion through a niche business environment that engages the community, especially young people. 

Silverton (2012): In October, 2012 DCI visited the town of Silverton to help them get tools, resources, and direction for their downtown’s development.  DCI listened to presentations and focus groups from the community, and presented a list of observations and recommendations for the town to take.  

Telluride (2007): In 2007 DCI visited the Town of Telluride. The objective was to develop an entity to represent the business community’s interests, to promote development and recruitment in the town. DCI helped the town develop better communications strategies to work with the businesses to create communication channels between businesses and the local government.
